Spirit Essences Report: Larry, Ruby + Bonus: Weston

As part of a new on-going blog series, we’ll be giving you insider info about the Spirit Essences that Jackson used to help the cats (and their  guardians!) shown on My Cat From Hell (Saturdays at 8 pm (ET/PT) on Animal Planet, check your local listings).

Spirit Essences are holistic remedies, and the only veterinarian-formulated line of its kind in the world.   Jackson has developed and refined the remedies based on his over 15 years of experience and the needs of his clients.  They have been extremely successful, even in very difficult situations.  For more info, check out www.SpiritEssences.com

This debut post also features a bonus report inspired by an interview Jackson gave just this morning, to Boston’s #1 radio show on WAAF, Boston’s Rock Station.  This bonus report contains the Spirit Essence Jackson would recommend in the situation discussed during the interview.

And now, presenting the first installment of The Spirit Essences Report.

My Cat From Hell

Larry

Issue: A female cat with a male name, Larry was spraying and urinating all over her owner’s home.  She was also very aggressive, hissing, biting, and scratching both of her guardians.

Ruby

Issue: While affectionate and calm with her male guardian, Ruby was aggressive with her female pet guardian (a Pilates teacher), even going so far as to scratch and bite some of her Pilates clients.

Bonus: Weston

Weston

Issue: Weston is a 19-year old female cat who is crying and screaming throughout the night.  Jackson advised that Weston may be experiencing dementia.

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book CAT DADDY and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.

PLEASE be careful. Cats have a very different biology and many essences may be poisons to toxic to them. I wanted to have an aromatherapy while I take a bath, but because I have a cat I did some research and found out that all of my essences were toxic to them.

      Sandra,

Thanks for your concern. Good job on doing your research about aromatherapy and essential oils!

However, and this is great news — you don’t have to worry about Spirit Essences being dangerous at all. They are not essential oils. Spirit Essences are energy medicine, meaning they carry the energies from various flowers, gems, etc. These energies help to balance the energy of the animal.

The line was developed by holistic veterinarian Dr. Jean Hofve and Jackson, and it’s been used to help all kinds of animals, from cats, dogs, birds, and horses, to dolphins, pigs, and even spiders (yes, really!), for over 15 years.

For more info, you can check out http://www.SpiritEssences.com

Thanks again for checking out the site and being such a conscientious pet owner.

I love the show but I am very disappointed that they do not show the participants using the flower essence or even talking about them. They have such an importance in the behavior process, but I guess that would not make for entertaining TV…

      Hi Muriel,

We’re getting ready to post the second installment of the series [Spirit Essences Report]. It’ll list the essences Jackson used when working with the cats in episode two of My Cat From Hell.

Jackson, love the show and all of the insight you provide. We have 4 cats and have been able to find some helpful points on behavior issues at our home. Thanks.

Thanks Dave! Kudos to you and your household on being such responsible cat guardians. All the best to you and your 4 furry ones.

What resource was Jackson referring to in episode with Larry the cat and her owners Josh and Tara that Jackson called CO2 charge? He said it eliminates cat urine odor and had Tara and Josh use it everywhere Larry sprayed urine. What is CO2 charge, where can I get it and how do I use it? I’m desperate for help, please. Thanks for a great program.

I took in a ferral female kitten last year and have been working with her to try and socialize her. She no longer hisses at me and will take treats from my hand and will let me pet her. She will sometimes curl up next to me on the sofa, but she is still very skiddish, any movement on my part, sudden or otherwise sends her running. She’ll come back after a few moments, but she’s still wary. She also will not let me pick her up. We play and I spend as much time with her as I can since she cannot have the run of the house. She has the finished basement guest room to herself. She is HIV positive and my 14 yr old male cat is diabetic and I cannot have the two of them together. What can I do to earn more of her trust to the point that she’ll let me pick her up. She’s come so far from when i first got her. Her brother, whom a friend took, is the total opposit. When he was caught in the have a heart trap, I reached in for him and he came right to my hand and head butted it and purred. I picked him right up and he just curled up in my arms. I’d never seen or heard of a ferral cat behaving that way. If only his sister had his temperment. Any advise you could give me would be very helpful and deeply appreciated.

I love this show, but I just watched the segment about Mad Max and am concerned. I taught parent education for many years and worked with parents of newborns. I would never encourage a parent to put a cat in the crib with a baby. It was a great idea to get Max used to the scent of a baby, but not by placing the cat in the crib with the doll. I would caution any parent to never leave their baby unattended with any kind of pet. It is an “old wives tale” that cats will suck the breath from a baby, but cats have been known to accidentally sufficate newborns. Some cats are attracted to the warmth of a baby and will snuggle up too close where the baby cannot breathe. For this same reason pillows and blankets should not be in the crib. I love this show and I love animals, but when it comes to the safety of babies and children, just don’t take chances!

I just rescued a cat who hates other cats. When she sees other cats she wants to attack them and when she cannot, will attack me instead. Please help, I want to get her adopted after she has overcome this obstacle.
Great show with Jackson, nice to see that Jackson does not intimidate the cats.

I have a male cat for three years now that aggressively bites (latches on and uses back feet to scratch). He does this to his owners when he gets hungry or out of no where. One minute he will be purring and the next he is biting. He also constantly is meowing at the door. Two months ago, my husband and I decided to take in a calm 8 month old female cat. Our hopes were that Chase would have a friend to play with. At first, they were just sniffing each other out, and now Chase chases her, pounces and bites whenever he can. Our new cat Clementine, screams when he does this and is scared of him. We try saying “NO” and using a water bottle to squirt Chase when he does this, but nothing is working. What do we do? Which remedy should we use from this website to help the two get along and to stop Chase from biting us and our new cat?! PLEASE HELP US!!!

On Jackson’s Spirit Essences page, one issue he listed that they can help is excessive vocalization. Well this is the only episode that mentions that, but the essence used is graceful aging because the cat is 19. My cat is only 2, but she yells at me all the time! I give her lots of attention and she has lots of toys, including a nice sized cat tower/tree. She’s an inside cat (lost too many cats growing up to cars & who knows what else), but there are several windowsills for her to sit on. I did start taking her outside more, even on a leash when she got more brave, but that made the yelling worse, because she wanted to go outside all the time! My neighbor has cats and they look at each other through the windows sometimes, but I don’t think I ever hear howling. I’d love to be able to have an enclosed area for her to have outside, but I just don’t know how that would be possible. Another big issue with her is she is constantly trying to get into the kitchen cabinets. I just had them redone and I’d hate to have to put child locks on every last one just to keep her out of the dishes like I did on the old cabinets. I’m very serious about needing so help with my silly girl, so here’s some info if it helps. Her name is Bobbie and I got her about 2 yrs. ago from a friend. She showed up at his house as a stray and he couldn’t have pet there. A couple wks went by and I noticed her getting rather chunky, so I stopped procrastinating bringing her to the vet and yep, you guessed it…she was pregnant. He guessed she was only about 9 months old at the time. She is part manx, and has a bobtail, hence the name. On 5/1/10, I watched her have 4 healthly kittens, 1 girl & 3 boys, in the wee hours of the morning. To my surprise when I woke up later that morning, there was a 5th kitten, extremely small, not doing well at all. I won’t go into details, but the runt, the only bobtail of the bunch, didn’t make it…I was devastated. The little girl went to her new home at 6 wks, but I had the 3 rowdy boys for about 3 months. I have since had Bobbie fixed. I also have an inside dog, I female pug named Daisy. Sorry for writing a novel, but any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Earlier this year we introduced a new male kitten to our two old male cats. All are neutered but the two older cats continue to spray on everything in the house. We socialized the kitten slowly to the other two and now they all get along although none of them are close with the other. We are getting tired of always cleaning up and tired of the smell. Any help or suggestions out there?

  11. Vicki July 14, 2012 at 3:02 pm #

I should clarify that the other two male cats are 7yrs and 3 yrs

How do i get my kitten to stop biting and to sleep? We play and play with her but she still wants to play all night and if we are doing anything but playing with her she bits us. She is 3 months old and we have other cats that never did this to us so we are lost on what to do

Hi, I just heard about Jackson today. I was telling a customer about my overly-affectionate male who constantly wants touching, cuddling, petting. That doesn’t seem so bad except that it’s 24/7. He even wants to sleep on my pillow right by my head. He used to sleep on the ones I put near my head, but now it has to be on my pillow. He cries when I take the dogs out for a walk. He has even tried to get into the bubble bath with me. It’s just not normal. And it’s not like I raised him. He’s a rescue, former tom cat, full one musculature and jowls, neutered 4 years ago before I adopted him. He’s all lover, no fighter, though from his scars and damaged eye, I know he saw some hard times. So. Does Jackson have a post re: clinging cats or separation anxiety or does one of the spirit essences help with this issue? I love my cat, but we cannot be Siamese twins (he’s not even Siamese!) THANK YOU!

    • Team Cat Mojo June 17, 2013 at 10:40 am #

Hi Elle, Wow. Yes, That does sound unusual! And thankfully, yes, there is a Spirit Essences formula especially for Separation Anxiety. You’re not the only pet guardian who’s had to deal with this. You can find the Separation Anxiety remedy here. It is formulated for the pet who gets anxious or upset when you’re getting ready to leave, or acts out or becomes destructive as soon as you are gone. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact the good people over at Jackson’s online store using the online form here. They not only ship out the orders, they help customers make decisions on which remedies to use for their animals. Hope that helps!
