Catification: The Cat Bridge

Denna and Travis from Orlando, Florida built this ingenious cat bridge with wire and light weight wooden planks. They strung the wire from the top of a half wall to the window on the opposite wall. It’s a great way to give the cats a walkway and a window seat.

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book CAT DADDY and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.

How can I tell if my cats are playing or seriously fighting? One of them definitely loves to play fight, but the target cat does not seem amused. Then again, sometimes the romp around chasing each other by turns, so I know she is a willing playmate at least part of the time.

I just googled the same thing! I have male and a female siblings and mostly they get along just fine but a few times a week, Moe will get the idea that he should sit on Miney’s head and chew on her neck. Unsurprisingly, she hates this! She will hiss and meow, they’ll end up tumbling around for a bit and then she’ll make her escape, tail twitching her disapproval. Often he’ll stalk her for a bit afterwards, maybe attack a few more times and a few more tumbles, then they’ll both get bored and go sleep somewhere. From what I can find, this isn’t a big deal. A real cat fight would be far more vicious with loud squalling and usually end with bloodshed. And yeah, sometimes I’ll catch Miney instigating a play fight too. I think back to my time as a kid poking and prodding and annoying my sister when she clearly was not in the mood but I was… cats probably aren’t much different from people :)

My hub is in the process of figuring out how to create TWO catification projects: 1. A Catio on our back deck (actually, make that Two catios–one on our back deck, and one on our daughter’s balcony–we have a duplex, and our daughter, AND our two grandkitties live in the upper unit, and we and our own five kitties live in the lower. Anyway, the other project is for a kitty super highway that will hopefully allow our guys to climb around in the living room and dining room–this without compromising the beautiful craftsman architecture of our almost 90-year-old house or its built-in, quarter-sawn, solid oak cabinets and sideboard. If possible, we want to include those glorious furnishings in our planned kitty highway/byway. I mean, they already jump up there at every opportunity, so we might as well go with the flow….it’s their house, too. If possession is 9 points of the law, they spend a lot more time there than we. So, there you go–they just let us live there. And pay the bills. WHO’s the boss?

I’m loving these ‘catification’ ideas. Those cats look so pleased with themselves way up there. So creative!

They love it! They love looking out of their own window. They especially Yip (the black cat) loves to use it to spy on our gerbil!
