Catification: Wraparound Catio

Sarah from Satellite Beach, Florida added on to her house this spacious catio that wraps around one corner of the garage. The structure is built on a concrete slab with two-by-four supports that are anchored into the concrete. Chicken wire and plastic roofing make the catio escape-proof. The cats have plenty of shelves at different heights for climbing and perching. There is a cat door leading from the house to the garage and another leading out to the catio. Sarah says that all the cats love to sunbathe on their catio, getting some fresh air, while staying safe and sound.

    Is that cat shaved?

Yes, Ozzie was a rescue who had been in the shelter for over 3 months, when he adopted us. He is a 10 yr old Maine Coon who was so horribly matted that we had no choice then to get him shaved =( Wouldn’t have been our choice, but he is so happy now. The mats were stopping him have full range of motion. We won’t be shaved again, we will just be brushing a lot

It’s so nice seeing how many cat lovers who actually see the way the cat sees the world and doesn’t make the cat live in “their” world but to live in the cats world. That’s the way it should be. You all make my faith in humanity be restored. My girlfriend and I have two dogs, a golden retriever and chow mix, Roxy. (She’s basically a midget retriever: so cute 🙂 a chihuahua and min pin mix, his name is Secret. And we took in my moms cat Phin, she moved and the complex wouldn’t allow her a cat. We rescued Pypar from a horrible home, living with a family of four, with three dogs, and six other cats, in a MOTEL ROOM! Then one day we heard a meow getting closer and closer to our balcony and there he was, Mr. Meow. Our neighbor down the way moved and just left him on his own 🙁 so we made him our outside cat since he loved being outdoors. On a regular schedule of feeding and having him come inside to get a good rest, or nap. Then he went back on his way. He’s managed to sneak inside a little more often now. Can’t get enough of them. Anyways, we are trying to “catify” out apartment better for the “kids”. We want to do as much as possible. We have all kinds of toys and scratch posts, beds, tunnels, we also started planting the kitty sweet grass. We bought them mint plants, parsley, sage (sp)and what not. But we want more kitty trees and cat shelves. We want a unique look. We have tons of art displayed and we want them to be able to walk around and climb on it and by it. We want them to know this is THEIR house and we are just living in it. Any ideas on shelves, which work better, metal? Wood? Should there be carpet on them? I need help and anything will do. Thanks for listening to me ramble. Hope you all have an amazing weekend 🙂

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book Cat Daddy and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.
