Catification: A Caribbean Catio

You can create a catio, or outdoor cat enclosure, by modifying an existing part of your home, like Sophia did with this landing on her house in the Cayman Islands. What a time Sophia’s cats must have watching the exotic wildlife from this luxurious look out! Here’s what Sophia says about her Caribbean catio:

“I turned a small outdoor landing into a luxurious “catio” that allows my 5 cats the freedom to move in and out of my home as they please. The enclosure is completely screened in using pet grade screening and the roof is insulated and has a ceiling fan for those warm Caribbean days and the pebble tiles are non-skid and easy to maintain and clean. Several cat trees and condos are available for my cat’s entertainment and lounging. Their special space looks out over the pool and gardens of my property and my cats can enjoy watching the wild iguanas and chickens that frequently trespass!!!”

We have 3 cats, or they have us, all are in love with cardboard. From picking their toes on it to sleeping on the layers of it. It doesn’t matter how much money we spend the kids want cardboard.

I’m with you, kitties make their own safety and games…so long as we supply the materials…they will create with them!

Ooooh, Kelly, this sounds like the perfect thing for your guys (gals?).
No, I don’t sell these, and have not seen them in person. I just always thought these would be fun if I had the floor space, because I have a couple of cats who are cardboard fiends myself.

Hello there:) I have loved your show for years and leave it on while I’m away to Animal Planet. My kitty kat kids watch more tv than I do. Taz and Star are desperately wanting to get out on the patio. I recently moved from upstairs to downstairs and now they cannot enjoy their patio like before, in safety. I am interested in building a catio/catery as I like to call it! I live in Fresno, Ca. and am wondering if you can refer me to a carpenter/craftsman who can build me a catery on my existing patio??? I have approval if it’s not attached. And I have it already built in my mind, just need to find someone to build it. I came across your website so I thought I’d ask;) I do love your show & how you help kats:) Bless you. I hope you can help me. Thank you. ~Cheyenne, Brett, Taz & Star~

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book Cat Daddy and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.
