The Cattery Cat Shelter

serving the Corpus Christi area of Texas.

The Cattery offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats.

From there, they seek permanent, loving homes for these animals.  In addition, The Cattery promotes public awareness regarding the value of animals and their welfare, the dangers of pet overpopulation, and the benefit of quality human-animal companionship.

You can check out The Cattery at thecatterycc.org and also on Facebook.

And don’t forget to get one (or a lot) of those kick-butt shirts from Arm The Animals!  Your purchase helps The Cattery and animals everywhere.

And big thanks to Stretch and Scratch, who is donating a case of their scratchers – made especially for cats in shelters waiting for forever homes – to The Cattery this month!

My grandson an I were out at a rural country antique store last Sunday. We were out in the high grass looking at items out in the field. My grandson said ” grandma! There is a kitten and it moved” This kitten looked dead and it looked like it had been dead for days. It’s stomach moved up and I first thought it was magnets doing it but then it’s foot twitched slightly. I grabbed and cuddled to my chest this limp kitten only 2 to3 weeks old and it just screamed so loud. I ran to the owner and asked him to please let me take this cat that I can save it. That I need to take it. So we ran to our car and dashed to walgreens for pedialite, syring and got a drp or two down its throat every 15 minutes an every two hours it started moving more and more and was able to hold its head up. Also high calorie and high sugar/vitamin in a gel rubbed on its teeth and inside lips due to it clenching teeth. It’s right eye is severely infected and it was severely dehydrated. By the end of the evening it was able to crawl up to my neck and give me the gift of purring. I brought her/him to humane society vet service and I then found out it had a hole by its tail filled with maggots and was at such a low weight that it was on the brink of death. It is in horrible shape. They cleaned out a lot of maggots and gave orall medicine to kill them, antibiotics and eye crime for all issues. After leaving the maggots started to really show again. I got a pair of tweezers and took out 30 something more live ones from the wound. You could see them all under the skin squirming. It was so horrible. That was last night that occurred. I haven’t seen any more. This poor kitten was being eaten alive from inside out from 100 or more maggots. Had severe starvation and dehydration and bad eye infection and today as of Tuesday she/he is still such a fighter and is a mirical kitten. It’s not out of the woods yet. The vet didn’t think it would live but I believe in it. I had a dream a week ago we found this kitten walking and healthy in tall weeds behind a chain link fence alone. It was this kitten. I had a dream of my 22 year old son right after. My son passed away just three years ago. I believe this cat is meant for a special person that needs a friend or that needs so badly a loving companion and this cat will help them love life again and smile again as animals helped me do. I cannot keep the kitten. My two grand kids are badly allergic and I have animals that fill my time now. It’s not meant for me it’s meant for someone else out there that needs help like I did. This baby has a very special gift to give I just know this and that is why I am working so hard to save its life. If we get past the threat of infection then this angel is going to make it. I have faith in this baby and it has a strong will to live. This is her/his third day. It loves so much to cuddle and touch you. Beautiful soul. Please help find that person it’s meant to be with and the person it fought and won over death to be with. That special person is out there. Kitty is charcole dark grey black with white on front paws and chest longer haired kitten. From swelling and injury it can’t be distinguished if boy or girl. The vet bills and labor of love to heal this kitten is being done by myself. The true home and purpose is waiting to be discovered. Any help to bring these two together would be the second miracle
    Thank you so very much

@Teresa: Maggots don’t eat live flesh, they eat dead flesh. Maggots have actually been used in wound therapy treatment for Diabetics to get rid of the dead flesh without painful treatments like cutting out the infection. Good luck to you.

In more relavent posting, The Cattery Cat Shelter has been an amazing organization for the South Texas area! I’m so glad to see them getting the recognition they deserve for all of their hard work and persistence! Way to go Sam and Scott!!

  5. Kat & the Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitty Horde   November 2, 2012 at 7:38 am

Those are great!! I’m going to pass this on and if I ever get time to get a post up I’ll make sure to put a link at the end of it. Right now I’m short of money to buy anything. Back in September the mother of a dear friend of mine found two kittens beside their dead mother. She bottle fed them but then she had to move while switching to a new job. My friend put out an all-call on Facebook for someone who could (and would!) take on these two orphans. I waited. At the time there were four cats in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitty Horde and I was restraining myself from adopting from my friend Chrystal (from whom I got my Winnie’s Wish cat). So now we have: Zaphoid Beeblebrox (15), StarWalker BitCat the ComputerKitty (11), Knives aka the Cat with the Identity Crisis (4), Lady Audrey Nova StarWatcher nee Sparkles (2) and Da Orphans Sir Thomas the Explorer and Dame Rose Tyler of Hogwarts (2 months). We also want to know how someone becomes shelter of the month because we’d like to nominate Chrystal! She’s doing all she can to rescue feral cats in IL and doing it all with donations and her own money. She’s written a great book about her work that’s comprised of her blog about her Cathouse.

The Horde loves watching your show! We’d love watching you visit shelters around the country, both large & small!! What a great way to promote adoption!! All of the Horde members are rescues. Zaphy came from a pregnant Queen who was dumped on my friend’s doorstep (she’s allergic to cats so we took two of the litter). Star was found on a walking path my ex-squared was on along with his sister (who went to his parents). Knives came from an individual rescuer who thought he was a girl (disappointing my ex-stepdaughter). Audrey is a Winnie’s Wish cat. And Da Orphans, Thomas & Rose were rescued by my friend’s mom. I blame the large invisibile-to-humans sign over my house that reads, “Cat Sucker Lives Here! Feeds the Good Stuff!” But of course, now I’m maxed out (1400 sq ft).

But I really really need the grenade tossing kitty!! He looks so much like Thomas!!

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book Cat Daddy and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.
