Here are a few words from Liberty Humane Society:

Sandwiched between the Turnpike, the Liberty Science Center and a sewage plant, our little facility (not much more than a converted garage) is filled to the brim with people who care about animals.  Our committed staff and amazing volunteers work hard every day to offer the best possible life for the animals unfortunate enough to lose their homes – until they can move on to their forever families.

Our little garage has served us well, but in order for us to go on providing much needed services to the animals and people of Jersey City, Hoboken, and beyond, we need to expand.  In addition to continuing to provide the housing, daily care, basic medical care, and adoption services we have in our current facility, the expanded building would contain additional housing for dogs and cats, an on-site veterinary clinic, offices, training facilities, and public spaces.

Just think of it.  A progressive shelter in an area that is easy to get to, with plenty of parking and room to grow.  Equally important, the shelter will continue to be managed by experts committed to ending animal overpopulation and irresponsible ownership.

Won’t you join our efforts to make Jersey City a better place for homeless pets? Learn more about the shelter and its residents on our website.  If you value what we do and really want to support us, consider making a donation.  Together, we can make a difference.

SocialPakt was founded in September 2011 by husband and wife team, Greg Mullens & Bailey Schroeder.  Inspired by their adopted dog Charlie, and all the happiness he brought to their life, Greg & Bailey started SocialPakt as a way to help raise money and awareness for animal rescues all across the United States and Canada.

Each week SocialPakt launches new, limited edition apparel products in support of various rescues specializing in the protection and adoption of dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and even ferrets.  For each product that they sell, $6 get donated directly to one of their partner animal rescues.

Stretch & Scratch

As a shelter volunteer, Joan Laisney saw scratch marks on cage walls and shelving by shelter cats’ attempts to perform natural behaviors: stretching their muscles, scratching to clean their nails and scent mark with paws.

After months of testing, Joan designed a scratcher for caged cats that is sturdy, easy to install and affordable in a tight economy.

Every Shelter/Rescue of the Month will receive a case of these awesome scratchers!  Thank you Stretch & Scratch!

  • attaches to most cage doors
  • mounts on the cage wall to save floor space
  • and keeps cage-cleaning easy
  • keeps cats exercised and entertained
  • encourages natural behavior
  • provides enrichment for quarantined cats
  • send scratcher home with kitty to ease stress
  • add Stretch and Scratch to your shelter’s “wish-list”
  • get scratchers donated by shelter supporters

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book CAT DADDY and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.

I was looking for some information or the appropriate channel to go through to ask about getting Jackson to one of our fundraising events. If this is even possible, what the cost would be for him to appear at our fundraiser etc. We are a true no kill animal shelter in Belton, Missouri, just a few miles south of Kansas City, Missouri. We specialize in cats and rescue and provide sanctuary for many special needs cats. Most shelters cats are 2nd class citizens, not at HELP Humane. Please let me know what channels to go through to see if we could afford to have Jackson appear at our fundraising event. Thanks so much for your time!!

On one of your episodes a cat would stay in it’s litter box all the time. My sister’s cat Doris is on Prozac because they’re in the middle of a home remodel which will be completed within the next 2-3 wks. Vet prescribed it and it has helped a lot. But today, for the first time, she was sleeping in her litter box. I can’t remember what you did for the other cat to calm him down. HELP.
