Spirit Essences Report: Defensive and Offensive Aggression

SE More on Ep 12 Max, Capri

This is part of a blog series called the Spirit Essences Report.  It contains off-camera info straight from Jackson about how he helps the cats you see on My Cat From Hell.  Many times behind-the-scenes, he has his clients use Spirit Essences holistic remedies.  They are the same remedies he formulated with Holistic Veterinarian Dr. Jean Hofve, and he’s been employing them for over a decade.

Spirit Essences are not essential oils.  They are holistic remedies, and the only veterinarian-formulated line of its kind in the world.  Jackson has developed and refined the remedies based on his over 15 years of experience and the needs of his clients.  They have been extremely successful, even in very difficult situations.  For more info, check out the holistic remedy section of store.jacksongalaxy.com

Max - Jackson and Anna use "the hand-off" technique to help Max enlarge his circle of safety

Max – Jackson and Anna use “the hand-off” technique to help Max enlarge his sense of safety

Max – not “evil” after all, but only really scared

Issue:
Max’s reputation for being “an out of control…evil cat” kept people away from him and his guardian Anna.  Even Anna’s son and family refused to come over to the house because they were afraid Max would attack them.

Jackson says:
My initial take on him (Max) was that he was forming a circle of protection around his mom (Anna).  Well, actually, no, he was protecting himself by having her around.  Max desperately needed Safe Space for Cats and with Safe Space, we also used Stress Stopper as well.

Relevant Spirit Essence Remedies:

Safe Space for Cats

This is one of the most popular holistic remedies in Jackson’s line and is incredibly effective with helping cats feel their “space is safe.”  When cats feel their territory is protected, it reduces their aggression, reduces urine-marking, and increases self-confidence.

Another one of the most popular remedies in the Spirit Essences line, Stress Stopper helps animals (not just cats) feel grounded and safe.  It’s specifically formulated to help animals move more easily through short-duration stresses like fireworks, trips to the vet, nail trimming, or social challenges.

Capri - who was aggressive towards everyone except her guardian

Capri – aggressive towards everyone except her guardian

Capri – the former “little devil”

Issue:
Capri was “a little devil to everybody else” except her guardian Summer.  Summer’s roommate Adrienne took the hit most of the time, but victims also included their apartment guests.

Jackson says:
Capri was much more offensive (than Max).  Defensive of territory, but ready to take the fight to the people as opposed to waiting until she was being hovered over.  Capri, also, Safe Space for Cats.  Same thing, right?  It’s all about feeling safe in their territory so that they don’t feel offensively aggressive, or defensively aggressive.  Stress Stopper as well.

I just had to have a cat put to sleep after many years of companionship. My remaining cats are so upset. I’m not only grieving for my lost friend, but seeing their pain makes me feel so guilty. What is the best way to help them through this time?

    Hello Jackson.
    My name is Mette.
I come from Denmark and me and my fiance have 4 cats. A female and a male and two 7 week old kittens.
Now the male and female can not be together anymore. they fight!! so that’s what I want to hear you on.
how we can put them back together. It must be said that the two adult cats have been living together since they were small. And now they have finally got kittens together.

    What do we do????

    Dear Jackson.

Greetings from Colombia. My name is Maria, and me and my husband have two cats, a male and a female, both two years old. We adopted them within the same week, when they were two months old, so they grew up together. When the male was around his first year we had him fixed, because we think it’s the responsible thing to do, and a few months later we had the female castrated as well to prevent diseases and other issues… And then the problems began.

After her surgery, it was like he didn’t recognize her at all. Our vet told us it was normal, because her “normal” odor was gone, and that it will get better after a while. But guess what… it didn’t.

And now we are very worried because he attacks her, and she is getting very afraid of him. Now they don’t play together or sleep together, as they used to, and it’s getting very hard to avoid confrontation. Mostly, they can’t be in the same room anymore, and he attacks when she is sleeping or just doing nothing…

Since everything else is pretty much the same, the house, the toys, the food, the activities, we really don’t know what else to do. I may add that they both are very nice cats, used to be very good friends, we never had any trouble with them… :'(

If you have any ideas, we’d love to hear them.

With much respect and admiration for your great work,

    María.

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book Cat Daddy and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.
