Here are a few words from the incredible team at Animalkind:

Animalkind responds to emergency rescue situations, works closely with law enforcement regarding animal abandonment and cruelty cases, as well as provides medical care and solutions to pet owners in crisis.  We provide a place of protection and refuge at our adoption center and in foster homes.  All our adoptable cats and kittens are tested for FelV, altered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper and micro-chipped.  With each adoption we provide one month free health insurance for the adopted cat.

We require an adoption application:
Adoptions are free, donations appreciated.   You can call us at: 518-822-8643

Spirit Essences: Holistic Remedies for Animals

Every Shelter of the Month receives
a 32 oz. bottle of Stress Stopper.

Stress Stopper is formulated for all animals, not just cats.  It helps animals feel grounded and protected, which makes it great for the occasional, short-duration stresses that an animal faces: trips to the vet, thunder and lightning, fireworks, parties, vacuum cleaner, lawnmower, machinery, visitors and house guests, vacations (if the animal is boarded or has a pet-sitter), unusual noises (remodeling, construction, roadwork, etc.), arguments with other animals, repairpersons.  It is also good for animals who are left home alone all day, to prevent boredom and stress.

As you can see, Stress Stopper is an all-around remedy, which has made it one of the best-selling remedies in the Spirit Essences line.

Stretch & Scratch

As a shelter volunteer, Joan Laisney saw scratch marks on cage walls and shelving by shelter cats’ attempts to perform natural behaviors: stretching their muscles, scratching to clean their nails and scent mark with paws.

After months of testing, Joan designed a scratcher for caged cats that is sturdy, easy to install and affordable in a tight economy.

Every Shelter of the Month receives a case of these awesome scratchers!  Thank you Stretch & Scratch!

  • attaches to most cage doors
  • mounts on the cage wall to save floor space
  • and keeps cage-cleaning easy
  • keeps cats exercised and entertained
  • encourages natural behavior
  • provides enrichment for quarantined cats
  • send scratcher home with kitty to ease stress
  • add Stretch and Scratch to your shelter’s “wish-list”
  • get scratchers donated by shelter supporters

Sunny Seat

Sunny Seat

The Sunny Seat installs in seconds to glass windows and doors and features industrial strength suction cups that hold up to an amazing 50 pounds!  They help give cats a getaway/hideaway above the floor traffic, which is especially useful in multi-cat or multi-animal households.

Our Shelter of the Month gets four of these great cat shelves!  Thank you Sunny Seat!

Dear Jackson, I think I can comment on be-half of the literally thousands of people in a tri-county area who have been helped by Animalkind’s various programs or who have adopted one of the wonderful cats and kittens rescued by Animalkind. This is an organization that does all that you describe above and more. No call for help is left unanswered. The calls include people desperate for medical care or spay/neuter for a beloved pet; people who need help with a feral cat colony; and people who can no longer afford their pet without donations of cat food and litter. No abandoned cat or kitten is ignored. They are brought to live in comfort at Animalkind’s adoption center until they are re-homed to a carefully screened family. We all join in thanking you for supporting the life-saving work done by Animalkind.

Dear Jackson, I am a member of the board at Animalkind. I want to express our appreciation to you for all that you do for animals. It is people like you with a heart like yours to be there to help organizations like ours so we are able to do what we do. By saving the helpless ones, we are also able to make lives better for people.
It’s especially important when someone like you who has such an effective voice to champion such causes.
    Bravo and thank you!

No other organization in the vicinity deals with feral cat spay/neuter (and often *placement* with local barn owners). Low income pet owners are helped with spay/neuter and sometimes emergency medical help for their pets. So much work is involved; so much care and emotion. This is a truly remarkable “hands on” operation. Praises to all at Animalkind !!!!!

    Thank you, Jackson!
Animalkind is a fantastic organization, doing incredible work in Hudson, NY and the surrounding area. Well deserved!

  6. Linda Gui   August 16, 2013 at 5:57 pm

In 2012 alone, Animalkind rescued 785 homeless cats and kittens…spayed/neutered 1790 cats…saved the lives of 35 cats with life-threatening injuries…and found homes for 620 cats!

Thank you so much for recognizing this wonderful organization — and the 24/7 dedication of its amazing founder, Katrin Hecker, who is an inspiration to us all!

We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book Cat Daddy and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.
