Here’s more info about this month’s organizations.
Fancy Cats provides a safety net for abandoned cats: those that end up at overcrowded shelters without viable options for adoption and/or those that are otherwise unwanted. The largest cat-centric rescue in the DC area, they’ve placed over 18,000 cats in new homes!
More words from the good folks at Fancy Cats Rescue Team themselves:
Compassion spurred Catherine McCullough Awad to start Fancy Cats Rescue Team in 1997. Too many nice, healthy cats were being euthanized at the local shelter in Fairfax, Virginia simply because they did not have the capacity to keep cats past their initial hold period. The brainstorm of a driven individual has evolved over the years into one of the largest rescue groups in northern Virginia with a team of over 100 volunteers, showing cats at area pet stores (three northern Virginia Petsmarts). Cathy Awad and Fancy Cats is recognized as a leader in animal rescue in the DC metro area. Fancy Cats reaches out to the public to give alternatives to prevent cats from ending up in shelters. We counsel families on the importance of pet retention and suggest ways of dealing with problematic behavior. Fancy Cats Rescue Team, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
$10 from every item purchased on the Res•Q•threads site
is donated to the animal rescue/shelter of the purchaser’s choice.

Every Shelter of the Month receives
a 32 oz. bottle of Stress Stopper.
Stress Stopper is formulated for all animals, not just cats. It helps animals feel grounded and protected, which makes it great for the occasional, short-duration stresses that an animal faces: trips to the vet, thunder and lightning, fireworks, parties, vacuum cleaner, lawnmower, machinery, visitors and house guests, vacations (if the animal is boarded or has a pet-sitter), unusual noises (remodeling, construction, roadwork, etc.), arguments with other animals, repairpersons. It is also good for animals who are left home alone all day, to prevent boredom and stress.
As you can see, Stress Stopper is an all-around remedy, which has made it one of the best-selling remedies in the Spirit Essences line.
As a shelter volunteer, Joan Laisney saw scratch marks on cage walls and shelving by shelter cats’ attempts to perform natural behaviors: stretching their muscles, scratching to clean their nails and scent mark with paws.
After months of testing, Joan designed a scratcher for caged cats that is sturdy, easy to install and affordable in a tight economy.
Every Shelter of the Month receives a case of these awesome scratchers! Thank you Stretch & Scratch!
- attaches to most cage doors
- mounts on the cage wall to save floor space
- and keeps cage-cleaning easy

The Sunny Seat installs in seconds to glass windows and doors and features industrial strength suction cups that hold up to an amazing 50 pounds! They help give cats a getaway/hideaway above the floor traffic, which is especially useful in multi-cat or multi-animal households.
Our Shelter of the Month gets four of these great cat shelves! Thank you Sunny Seat!
We regret that Jackson does not answer questions posted in the comments. This is due to his demanding schedule and the high volume of requests he receives. But most importantly, since he has not met your cat, it would be contrary to his approach for him to give specific personalized advice for your specific situation. That being said, general questions and issues are addressed throughout this blog, in his book CAT DADDY and of course, the show My Cat From Hell.
