#ShelterSunday: Justin, Fire Survivor

Justin Before

Back in April 2013, Justin was a tiny 4-week old kitten when he was the victim of a monstrous act of cruelty. He had been set on fire and left for dead on a street in North Philadelphia. Our #MonthlyMojo shelter for September, Animal Alliance was contacted for help due to the magnitude of his injuries, which were beyond scope of animal control services. We rushed Justin immediately to a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital for round the clock care.

From the very beginning, Justin showed us he was going to fight with all he had to live. His tiny body was covered in 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He had to endure multiple surgeries to debride his wounds and to remove the outer portion of his ears, which had been burned beyond repair. He battled through each surgery with a will to live that was far greater than anyone expected.

Justin After

Despite his severe burns, opportunistic infections, young age, and tiny size, he survived against all odds after over a month of hospitalization. Justin is a living example that each and every life is worth saving. He was adopted by his loving owner and he soon became an internet sensation, with over 140,000 followers on Facebook and an appearance on ABC’s hit show The View.
